Easter (round 2)
This weekend we went to Pella for a nice quiet Easter weekend, just the ... 30 of us! Okay, so maybe it wasn't so quiet. The good news is that my parents house is set up so that even with all the chaos, Miss Ruby got naps and bedtime in without problem - key to having a happy little girl! Most of the Reicks clan made it down and despite the rain, good food and drink and plenty of games were shared. Ruby's great grandma Grace was able to come down for the first time in a long time. The highlight of my weekend was watching Ruby and Grandma Grace share a sweet game of peek-a-boo.
Ruby focused a lot of her weekend on trying to keep up with Noah. Noah seemed to have interest as well and would come up to Ruby and tickle her or try to "help" her walk with a hand on her back or trying to hold her hand. Ruby wanted no "help", but tolerated the tickling. :)
It was nice to get to use her Easter dress twice. She actually did well in church, as well as a 13 month old who just wants to run can do! Following, the three little ones did an Easter Egg Hunt, each with an older helper to help hunt and to share the candy!
Ruby learned a few more animals this weekend, after a trip to the zoo on Friday and some late night play time with Daddy. Ruby's sleep was not good at all Friday night. I've heard the second year of life is all about getting teeth and so far that seems to be true for her. Dang that teething! Anyway, she now can do the noises for a fish and a sheep and gestures/motions for an elephant, a penguin, and a chicken. She also started calling Grandpa Reicks "ba-pa", I believe an adaptation of pa-pa which is what she calls her other grandpa. It is exciting to hear her work on new words and sounds. So far we have had the most luck with baby sign language. She consistently signs "more", "all done", "help", and "please" to communicate her needs.
