Chutes and Ladders

This video is a little long (I had to split it into two) and the videography is far from good, but it is fun to watch her learn.  Noah and Hannah, thanks for letting us borrow your slide for a year or two.  She loves it already!
O and by the way, we had our 15 month doctor's appointment today.  19lbs 15 oz... still a peanut.  She is in the 10th percentile, but the pediatrician wasn't concerned.  He said this was consistent for her and that that amount she gained over the past 3 months was comparable to other kids her age.  Height and head size is still average.  Kids come in all sizes.  Ours just comes in small... borderline x-tra small. :)  Finally sat still long enough to complete the hearing test and passed and got 2 shots.  She didn't like them, but recovered quickly.
On the way out, the receptionist gave her two cookies instead of the usual one.  I could just hear her thinking "Here have two kiddo - you need it!" :)

15 months

Well 15 months is bringing us all kinds of new experiences...

Ruby continues to learn new wordbs.  She has some interesting ones... not your classic baby words, but we take what we can get.  Her most recent have been - hat, open, and out (short for outside).

She follows direction well, when she wants to.  She will lift her bottom for you when you change her diaper and go get your shoes if you say you will take her outside. 

Last night we went to my co-worker's wedding, and she was quite the social butterfly.  Running around and making friends with plenty of strangers.  I think by the end of the night, half the people there had interacted with her.  I will try to post some pictures of her and her friends Blake and Lyla later. 

Earlier in the week, she came down with a fever and a sore throat.  We hadn't really done the high-grade fever thing.  You could tell she felt yucky. It took Mom and Dad a bit to figure out how to help.  We made it through in a couple days though.

Ruby's Tulip Time Top Ten

Top Ten Reasons Ruby loved Tulip Time

 10 - Got to see Grandma and Grandpa, it had been a while
9 - Lots of people watching, Ruby didn't nap in the stroller as we had hoped... too busy watching
8 - Got to meet a new friend, Lakyn ( Tera, her mom, was my neighbor/playmate growing up)
7 - She got to be outside... no matter what, Ruby would always rather be outside than in!
6 - She got to have ice cream for lunch - it's Tulip Time the idea of a well balanced diet kinda goes out the door!
5 - She got to see her friends the Steenhoeks i.e. her God-grandparents and Sara - who Ruby wanted to run after on the parade route
4 - She finally proved that she can sleep well at Grandma and Grandpa's house, we were starting to wonder after a bad track record
3 - Grandpa was in the parade and in a dutch costume (2 firsts)
2 - Marching Bands - Ruby was a huge fan and clapped after each one passed by
1 - Poffertjes (small sweet dutch pancakes - although we cut them into pieces, Ruby managed to jam several in her mouth at once while I was distracted with the parade!)

Life as we know it!

It has been such a long time since we have posted anything!  Life just whizzes by.  The milestones are further apart or actually just a lot closer together.  If updated you every time Ruby learned another animal or body part.  Each time she started using a new sign or understood another word I said (yes, Steve and I have to spell words like s-w-i-n-g, m-i-l-k, or g-o o-u-t-s-i-d-e :) ).  We would be blogging constantly.  This is such a fun age.  My favorite part is watching her funny little personality come out.  She will run across the living room swinging her arms in the air and talking to herself about who knows what.  She still refuses to say mommy and rather than try, looks right in my eyes and says "Da-da" and then waits for the reaction.  She listens to no and is quick to figure out the rules, but then when she does, she likes to pretend she is going to do that naughty thing and watch me - again, the girl loves a reaction.

 This week we finally let her open the barn and animals we gave her for her birthday.  Saving some presents til later is genius!  So each day we play farm.  She likes to put the silo on top of the barn, apparently she is into skyscrapers.  We keep talking about baby chicks in hopes that her next encounter with Grandma Judy's chicks goes a little better.  She wasn't sure what to think of them the first time.

 Yesterday we went to visit a friend of ours who is on bedrest.  Another friend was there with her 6 week old.  Ruby really wanted me to be feeding the baby the bottle all the time... cause that's what you do with babies.  She like playing with the baby's carseat, even when the baby wasn't in it.  She pointed out the baby's toes and nose, and then quickly jabbed the baby in the eye - oops!  Thank goodness Lainey's mama is laid back!  Ruby doesn't have any experience being the older kiddo... something I expect will be happening more and more, as friends of ours have babies.

 Anyway, life is busy, but good.  Here are some photos of Ruby in action, she surely doesn't sit still for a photo!
