This is Ruby doing her best to crawl....more of a slow scoot backwards....very slow.

I Feel Like Chicken Tonight...
Ruby started meats this week. The doctor had given us the okay, as of 7 months, but since last week was a bit busy, we started this week. I have to say pureed meat is NOT pretty. Fortunately, Ruby seems to like this pastey white mess. The only thing that makes me feel good about it, is that I am making it myself. So at least I know the white goo contains chicken breast meat and water and I don't have to worry about what other chicken parts were thrown in too! So far, we have done chicken and applesauce, chicken and peaches, and chicken and carrots. Of course, she is a fan of the fruits. Ruby is also working on finger foods and has become a pretty big fan of black beans. We tried peas last night, and she was not digging those. We will try again though. The biggest question we get is: "Is she crawling yet?" Nope. Though last night she didn't wear her sleep sack and I had to come rescue her a couple times. Finding her on her stomach with her legs stuck in the rails. So she's working at it... all in her own time! Mommy and Daddy are okay with her not crawling for now, makes life much easier! :)

construction...
So recently there was a decision in our household that a wall needed to come down. We aren't talking about any metaphorical walls here. We love our old home, but it was so seperated into tiny rooms that it made it always feel crowded. Steve and I both tend to be a bit impulsive and so we decided now was the time to do it before Ruby was crawling. This week Steve's brother Erik came to Des Moines, and the two of them tore down the wall between our entry way and our living room. Thank you Erik... I am sure our house would have fallen down without you! I don't have to tell you all that with home projects come with a bit of stress. On top of that, Miss Ruby couldn't be in the house due to the dust, etc. and so off she went to Babchas (grandma Helen), as Mommy had to go to work. Two days away from Ruby was hard, although we knew she was in good hands. Then on top of that, Sunday night (before heading to Babchas on Monday night) we noticed one of her eyes was getting quite red and there were big green gobs of gunk in it. So after a quick trip to Urgent Care, Ruby was diagnosed with pink eye, followed by Mommy the following morning. We now have our baby back and the wall is gone. We love the new space! It is going to be awesome as Ruby becomes mobile and opens our home up for entertaining. You can see in the picture that there is still lots of finishing work to be done, but at least we no longer sit 7 feet away from a 52 inch screen. :) I am sending Daddy and Ruby off to Iowa City to cheer on the Hawks this weekend, so I can get the floors and staining finished without a baby in the house. Eventually, I will post more pics of the finished space, but for now a couple and a few of Ruby rockin' her new Hawkeye legwarmers! :) (if you are wondering about her face in the last pic, we asked her what she thought of the first 3 quarters last week...)

Apparently the tutu did it...
Yesterday, Ruby started dancing to music. When I sing to her or when she pushes the button on one of her musical toys, sure enough, she starts rocking back and forth with a big smile on her face. Steve and I both dance with her and "for her" a lot... so I suppose it was bound to happen some time. Let's just say her moves are probably much cuter than mommy or daddy's! :)
I also watched Ruby's friend Hayley yesterday. Hayley is 5 weeks younger than Ruby. Wow. God bless all of you who have twins! Luckily, I was only on my own for the first 4 hours. Kim and Steve get a big kudos for helping out from 12:30 til 5:30. Ruby was very into watching Hayley. Hayley was very into Ruby's toys and moving. Not even 6 months and she is virtually crawling. I had hoped Ruby would get inspired. Instead, she happily sat on her butt and watched Miss Hayley scoot around the room. Oh well. The babies were very good and each got good naps in... so I think it was a success. Although, this mama was tuckered out and treated herself to a margarita once all was said and done! :) Hayley borrowed Ruby's poncho to go outside ... brrr, it is getting so cold out! :( We tried to get a picture of the two... the pics below were the outcome.

Our Tiny Dancer
So we posted a picture of her in a cheerleading outfit a week ago. That made me think it was about time to get a tutu on this girl. I think most of you know that I danced for years and years, and although it will totally be Ruby's choice regarding whether she wants to try dance, the pictures were fun! Yesterday Steve had her at some friends' house, and they were commenting that she was such a ballerina. Even when she sits on someone's lap her little feet keep turning and moving. For those of you who knew me has a baby, she has started rubbing her feet together in excitement. Whether this 'mama trait' will continue, we will just have to wait and see. Our friends also commented that she was so petite and thus ballerina-like. It seems to me that rather than petite, Ruby has been the recepient of her mama's "strong legs" and like for food... thus having a belly that hangs over her tutu. Anyway, enjoy the photos... notice we managed one with a clean shirt!

tales of Ruby's first Hawkeye game... almost
Last Saturday, we posted a picture of Miss Ruby in her cute little Hawkeye outfit (thanks Emily Heithoff!), but haven't had much time to post the stories. Ruby loved tailgating! We got her up at 6:30AM and although she yawned her way to Iowa City from the Wagner's home in the Amanas, she was wide eyed once she got there. So much to see...Hawkeye flags blowing in the wind, kids playing catch, shiny beer cans :) , koozies - her fave, and Uncle Erik. She had no interest in napping. Her papa got her asleep once, but as soon as he laid her down, she was ready to go again. Throughout the morning, the skies looked ominous. We all continued to check the radar and watch storm after storm head North of us, but then there was that one. The one headed right for us and at that point, Ruby and Mama decided not to head to the game. Right before game time, the clouds opened up and it began to poor. Soon Babcha too had decided that warm and snuggled on the couch was a better way to watch the game. So the guys headed out, and we decided to wait out the rain before we made the 6 block walk to the other car that had Ruby's car seat in it. We waited and we waited... but the rain didn't stop. Finally we decided to make a go for it. We put little Ruby in the stroller and then stuck the umbrella through the handles... so that most of her was covered. I also wrapped her legs in a blanket and then covered myself with a giant trash bag. Off we went... Mama walking as fast as she could and pushing the stoller and Babcha behind with an umbrella and the diaper bag. It poured and poured and we were flying though the puddles and the mud, when all of a sudden the blanket fell off. S***! I threw it over my arm and grabbed another from the diaper bag... moving the umbrell and getting poor Ruby a bit wet, I got the next blanket on. Then off we went for another couple of blocks, when S***! the other blanket fell off. Well I was out of blankets and not feeling like the best mom having my 6 month old out in this weather. Her poor little socks and leggings were soaked, but all I could do was move fast. We arrived at the car, threw off the umbrella to put Ruby in the car, and there she was fast fast asleep. :) Once in the car, we pulled off the wet clothes and she fell back asleep and then once back at the house proceeded to sleep another 3 hours. Her adventure definitely wore the poor thing out... what a trooper! Babcha and mom then broke out the wine and a couple hours later the guys joined us. What a day! Here a few pics of the tailgate prior to the rain.

Patty Cake!
So... we should have named our girl Patty Cake Camerona because the girl is obsessed. :) Of course, she has spent weeks learning how to get those two pudgy hands of her's together and the girl likes to practice and show off. I am sure this will get quickly replaced by some new trick, but for now, patty cake rules her world. In other news, Ruby slept better than she has in months last night. Praise the good Lord! She went down at 7pm, Steve got up once to put the binky in, and then I nursed her at 5:30AM. She then went right back down til 8PM. Love it! I am sure we won't be so lucky tonight, so have to celebrate today!
